María Claudia López Sorzano is Bogotá’s Secretary of Culture, Sports and Recreation. López Sorzano is one of the country’s great experts in cultural heritage protection and conservation.

She’s an architect with a Master’s degree in Restoration and Conservation of Ancient Monuments from l'Ecole de Chaillot in Paris. In 1996 she was appointed Colcultura’s advisor for the evaluation of projects for national monuments. She was Colombia’s National Director of Heritage, and as such represented the country in UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee. From 2009-2015 she was Deputy Minister of Culture. She was in charge of the country’s programs of Cultural Concertation, Stimuli to Creation and Research, and Cultural Infrastructure and Social Security in Health for Cultural Creators and Managers, among others. She was also a member of the National Committee of ICOMOS Colombia (International Council on Monuments and Sites).

López Sorzano has taught at the following Colombian universities: Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Universidad de la Salle and Universidad Católica.

The fourteenth session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage is organized by UNESCO, Colombia’s Ministry of Culture, Bogota’s Secretariat of Culture, Sports and Recreation and FONTUR, together with Colombia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, its permanent delegation to UNESCO, the IDPC and Bogota’s Museum.
